I gave a talk at Carolina Code Conference called The Moat Was Made of YAML. This is the whole argument in 60 seconds.
Every SaaS product you pay for sells you the same thing: someone else runs it. Installs, certs, SSO, upgrades, the 2am backup page. That labor was the moat. The software was never the moat.
AI is very good at that labor now. Not at being sentient. At YAML.
So why don't we just run the open source version stopped being a punchline. The question left over isn't whether you can run it. Its whether anyone will put their name on it when it breaks.
That's the new moat. Judgement, and a person willing to sign for it.
Full talk in the comments.
